Deputy Clerk of Court
McLean County is seeking a dependable and detail-oriented Deputy Clerk of District Court to assist the Clerk of District Court in carrying out the functions, responsibilities, and statutory duties of the Clerk’s Office. This position plays a key role in supporting court operations, maintaining court records, and providing assistance to the public, attorneys, and other agencies.
The ideal candidate will be organized, professional, and comfortable working in a fast-paced legal environment with strict confidentiality and accuracy requirements.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Assist with court operations including scheduling hearings and preparing court calendars.
• Receive, review, and process incoming court documents submitted by mail, email, or electronic filing systems.
• Enter case information, proceedings, and dispositions into the Case Management System.
• Process court orders, notices, and reports in accordance with established procedures.
• Receive and record payments including fees, fines, bonds, and restitution.
• Answer and route telephone calls and assist the public with requests for court information while maintaining confidentiality.
• Prepare court files and assist with courtroom operations during hearings, both remotely and onsite.
• Coordinate hearing schedules with law enforcement, attorneys, and other parties.
• Search court records for criminal, civil, traffic, and judgment information as requested.
• Assist with jury management including creating jury pools, preparing and mailing jury summons, and maintaining juror records.
• Update child support case information and prepare reports using the FACSES system.
Qualifications:
• High school diploma or GED required; associate’s degree in a legal field preferred.
• Experience in a legal office or court setting is helpful.
• Strong grammar, written communication, and attention to detail.
• Ability to understand legal terminology and court procedures.
• Ability to handle confidential information with professionalism.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and legal/case management software.
